Stealers lost 15-6 to Baulkum Hills Saturday at Northmead Oval despite Mark Schafer and David Lane both having a two-hit days at the plate.

Two of Stealers’ runs were scored thanks to timely hitting by Mark. He singled in the second and third innings.

A three-run second inning helped bring Stealers within six. An RBI double by Michael Burrell, an error, and an RBI single by David Lane set off Stealers rally. Gene Reis to end the Stealers threat.

Three runs in the top of the third helped Stealers close its deficit to 10-6. A two-run single by Mark and a sacrifice fly by Kim Timmins gave Stealers life. Finally, Andrew Wigmore induced an inning-ending from Michael.

Andrew Wigmore recorded the win for Baulkum Hills even though he allowed six runs over four innings. He struck out one, walked two and surrendered eight hits.

Baulkum Hills easily handled Stealers pitching as six hitters combined for nine hits, nine RBIs and 12 runs scored.  Mark couldn’t get it done on the mound for Stealers, taking a loss. He allowed 11 runs in 2 2/3 innings, walked five and struck out one.

The game was never in doubt after the first, as Baulkum Hills scored nine runs on an RBI double by Steve Cox, an error, a fielder’s choice, and four singles.

David Lane, the Stealers Manager commented: “The line score says it all, 5 errors resulted in 5 unearned runs and that made the game less competitive that it should have been.  We also hit less than we did the first time we played them”.

The Stealers return home to Golden Jubilee this weekend to face undefeated Greenway for the final game of 2013.
