Despite Michael Burrell‘s 3-3 performance at the plate on Saturday, Stealers took a 13-5 loss at the hands of Greenway 5 at Golden Jubilee. Two of Stealers’ runs were scored thanks to timely hitting by Michael. He singled in the first, third, and fifth innings.

Brandon Hoyle got the win for Greenway 5 despite allowing five runs over five innings. He struck out four, walked two and surrendered 13 hits.

Greenway 5 never surrendered the lead after the first inning, scoring five runs on a sacrifice fly by Brandon and two singles.

Greenway 5 added four more runs in the top of the fourth. A double by Adam Christian ignited the offense,, scoring Leighton Hawkes. That was followed up by Brandon’s single, bringing home Adam.

Two runs in the bottom of the fifth helped Stealers close its deficit to 13-5. A two-run single by Michael sparked Stealers’ rally. Greenway 5 closed the game out when Brandon got Brian Riegeis-Morgan to ground out.

Stealers Manager David Lane commented: “In some ways it was a repeat of last week, errors hurt us with 4 unearned runs scoring in the first inning.  Against the 1st place team, you have to play a better game.  We out hit them, but we not able to make critical plays in the field”.

The Stealers are off for the Christmas Holidays but return to Golden Jubilee on January 11th to face the last place team in the opening game of 2014.
